The ESMSLM-1000W ultrasonic sludge interface meter is an industrial instrument used for online continuous monitoring of the height of the liquid-sludge interface. It is widely applied in scenarios such as sedimentation tanks, thickening tanks, and sludge tanks in municipal sewage, water treatment plants, and industrial wastewater treatment. Its core function is to replace manual measurement, achieving precise monitoring of the sludge level and automatic sludge discharge control. The instrument primarily uses the principle of ultrasonic echo ranging and consists of a submersible protective probe, a main unit, and a signal transmission module. The probe has a protection rating of IP68, allowing long-term underwater immersion, and is made from 316L stainless steel or polytetrafluoroethylene, suitable for different corrosive working conditions.

During operation, the underwater probe emits high-frequency ultrasonic pulses towards the bottom of the tank. The sound waves propagate stably in clear water, and when they reach the sludge-water interface, due to the significant difference in density and acoustic impedance between water and sludge, the sound waves are strongly reflected and received by the probe. The instrument accurately measures the time difference between the emitted and received sound waves, and using the built-in temperature sensor, it corrects the effect of water temperature on sound speed in real time. The distance from the probe to the sludge-water interface is then calculated using a formula. Combined with the preset total depth of the tank, the instrument automatically calculates the sludge layer thickness and interface height. The instrument can output a 4–20 mA analog signal or RS-485 digital signal, support remote monitoring, high and low limit alarms, and can link with sludge pumps to achieve on-demand sludge discharge, reducing energy consumption, preventing sludge accumulation or excessive discharge, and ensuring the effectiveness of water treatment.
